Best Things to do in Silom Bangkok

Today we will discuss the Best Things to do in Silom Bangkok. Let’s take a look

For seasoned travelers to Bangkok, the bustling district of Silom might have remained undiscovered, overshadowed by more renowned areas. Despite unknowingly passing through during a first backpacking trip, Silom largely remained off the radar.

However, during a more extended stay in Bangkok, the allure of exploring new locales led to the discovery of Silom. This district, characterized by skyscrapers and a distinct business atmosphere, unveils a unique charm that combines the urban vibe with authentic local life. Here, I share my favorite activities and attractions in Silom, offering a blend of relaxation and exploration.

Silom: The Business Hub with a Local Twist

Silom, often identified as a business district with towering skyscrapers, might seem lacking in authenticity at first glance. However, delving deeper reveals that it is not merely a concrete jungle. Silom effortlessly combines modernity with local life, offering a different perspective on Bangkok. One of the significant advantages of Silom is its accessibility. Easily reachable and budget-friendly, Silom serves as an ideal launchpad for exploring the city via public transport, minus the incessant presence of tuk-tuk drivers and tour sellers commonly found in tourist-heavy areas.

During our initial two nights in Bangkok, Silom provided the perfect setting for a relaxed beginning to our journey. By day, we ventured into the city’s exploration, and in between, we indulged in the comfort of one of the finest hotels in the city. Here are some of my favorite things to do in Silom:

1. Explore the Soi 20 Morning Market:

Dive into the heart of local life at the Soi 20 Morning Market. This vibrant marketplace stands as my preferred spot in Silom, offering a delightful array of street food that won’t break the bank. The fusion of diverse cultures creates a unique atmosphere, making it a must-visit. Note that the market is closed on Mondays and is primarily a morning affair on other days.

2. Visit the Sri Mariamman Hindu Temple:

Immerse yourself in the colors, smells, and sounds of the Sri Mariamman Temple, a captivating Hindu temple in Bangkok. The temple’s surroundings feature colorful stalls adorned with flowers and incense, adding to the sensory experience. Consider combining a visit to this temple with a trip to the Soi 20 Morning Market for an enriched exploration.

3. Enjoy the Most Beautiful View of Bangkok:

Experience Bangkok from new heights at the King Power Mahanakhon SkyWalk. Opened in late 2018, this sky bar stands as one of Thailand’s highest observation platforms, offering breathtaking views of the city. The ideal time to visit is between 5 pm and 6 pm, just before sunset. Opt for tickets that grant access to both indoor and outdoor areas, providing an opportunity to traverse the glass skywalk.

4. Escape to Lumphini Park:

Amidst the urban chaos, find tranquility at Lumphini Park, a serene oasis. This green haven serves as a favorite for locals engaging in morning walks, tai chi exercises, or leisurely picnics. Surprisingly, the park is home to gigantic monitor lizards, adding a touch of wildlife to the peaceful surroundings.

5. Unleash Your Inner Child at the Unicorn Café:

For those seeking a whimsical experience, the Unicorn CafĂ© in Bangkok is a haven of rainbows, fairy tales, and unicorns. While it may not be everyone’s cup of tea, if you adore unicorns and vibrant aesthetics, trying out a rainbow-themed treat or renting a unicorn suit for an Instagram-worthy photo might be just the thing.

6. Visit the Wat Hua Lamphong Temple:

While Silom may not be renowned for its Thai temples, the Wat Hua Lamphong Temple stands out as an exception. Nestled amidst skyscrapers, this temple exudes beauty and tranquility. During our visit, the peaceful ambiance allowed us to capture photographs without the usual crowds, making it a noteworthy stop for those interested in Thai temples in the Silom district.

7. Pamper Yourself at the Amara Bangkok Hotel:

Elevate your Silom experience by staying at the Amara Bangkok Hotel, especially if you’re at the beginning or end of your trip and seek relaxation amid sightseeing. Boasting one of Bangkok’s most beautiful infinity pools, this hotel offers stunning rooftop views. Booking a “club 10 room” provides access to a luxurious room with a view of the iconic Mahanakhon tower, along with unlimited access to the club lounge offering drinks and delectable snacks throughout the day.

All the mentioned activities are conveniently within walking distance of Amara Bangkok, making it an ideal base for exploring Silom.

Accessibility of Silom:

Silom’s accessibility adds to its appeal. The MRT metro line provides the easiest access, especially for travelers arriving at Suvarnabhumi International Airport. Utilizing the airport link towards Phaya Thai and transferring at Makkasan to the MRT metro line towards Hua Lamphong facilitates a smooth journey. Additionally, Grab taxis offer an affordable mode of transportation within the city.

For those aiming to explore top sights like Wat Pho, the Grand Palace, or Khao San Road from Silom, combining the Skytrain with a boat ride is a convenient option. Take the Skytrain to Saphan Taksin station and transfer to the local taxi boat towards Tha Tien or Phra Athit pier.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Silom unveils a side of Bangkok that seamlessly blends business sophistication with local charm. Whether you’re indulging in street food at the Soi 20 Morning Market, enjoying panoramic views at the Mahanakhon SkyWalk, or finding serenity in Lumphini Park, Silom offers a diverse range of experiences that enhance any visit to the vibrant city.

What to do in Genoa :

Genoa, often overshadowed by its more popular Italian counterparts, holds a wealth of treasures waiting to be discovered. While it may not immediately come to mind when planning an Italian adventure, this maritime city boasts a rich history as the former capital of a powerful republic and the birthplace of renowned figures like Christopher Columbus and Niccolo Paganini.

Despite its lesser-known status, it offers a unique charm and a plethora of attractions that appeal to curious travelers. So, what makes this city special, and what should you do when you visit?

Getting to Genoa

Reaching Genoa is easier than you might think. During the summer months, S7 Airlines offers direct flights, while various European carriers operate year-round flights. Train travel is also an option, with direct routes available from cities like Moscow. Whether you choose to fly or take the train, Genoa is well-connected and easily accessible.

Where to Stay in Genoa

Choosing accommodation in Genoa requires some consideration, especially due to the city’s intricate layout. The historical center may seem compact, but its labyrinthine streets can be confusing to navigate, particularly with luggage. Opting for hotels near major transportation hubs like Principe and Bignoli train stations or metro stations is advisable.

For first-time visitors staying briefly, accommodations near Genova Piazza Principe offer convenience and easy access to transportation links, including the airport bus stop and cruise terminal.
